In+Pathos

A 6th-8th grade overnight retreat on Empathy and Belovedness

On How To Be Empathetic

In+Pathos is our new overnight event for Middle School (6th-8th grade) youth focused on empathy and how we care for and treat others and ourselves.

The Program has been written by Episcopal youth ministers in Arkansas.

The weekend includes:

  • A deep discussion on empathy using principles from Brene Brown and beliefs of the Episcopal Church..

  • Small groups where youth will interact with each other to understand strategies for interacting with the world utilizing an empathetic mindset.

  • Talks by youth and youth leaders using current media as well as diverse speakers.

  • Use of the Emotion Wheel as a tool for youth to be able to talk about their emotions.

  • Individual activities geared towards strengthening one’s own self-esteem and understanding of being a beloved child of God.

  • Fun games, music, and activities.

  • 6th, 7th and 8th grade youth. Older youth may apply to be on the leadership team. Parents and other adults may be background helpers if they would like.

  • Checkin is at 7:30 pm on Friday and we will be finished for pickup from the same location Saturday at 5:30pm. You do have to attend the whole event as the small groups and discussion needs your full attention.

  • $30. This cost includes snacks, breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as some meaningful gifts from the event.

  • You will be sleeping on the floor and will need a redroll or sleeping bag and can bring an air mattress. All meals will occur at the church. Showers may not be available. Don’t come stinky.
